I'm neither for nor against the proposed mosque that might be built 2 blocks from ground zero in New York City.
I saw on the news this afternoon, a Reverend, holding the Holy Bible, shouting hateful things against Muslims and the Islamic people. Using a Holy Bible to promote hate and basically racism is something that totally shocks and disgusts me. I understand that emotions are high and the horrible things that happened on September 11th will never be forgotten, but it is not like the mosque is on ground zero or even within the block.
The mosque is for AMERICAN Muslims, American, one of us, people who love this country like we do. Who come here for safety and better opportunities, instead of the hate and death in their home country. The people that will go there are going there to practice their religion and to find solace and peace in this chaotic place that we call Earth.
Being against the mosque being built is like telling those people to not practice their religion.
How would you like it if someone came up to you and said that you can not go to your church, you can not go and pray to your God, you can not find the comfort inside those doors? How much does it take for people to actually open up their eyes and see how much hate is being spewed. From a man 'of god' even.
People of middle eastern descent are already stereotyped and hated for just being born in a country that they had no choice of being born in. How much racism does it take for people to see that denying people their faith is an act against God himself?
Racism is ugly, hateful and ultimately evil. Look inside yourself, can you see any of those traits in your heart? Just because someone is different does not mean that they are wrong. Middle Eastern people did not all get together and decide to attack New York City. It was a group of hateful men, driven by power and hate. Can you see any similarities with what's happening now?
I am in no way condoning what has happened throughout our history but I want each and every one of you reading this to actually take a moment to think about how much hate is in this 'land of the free, and home of the brave.'
Our land of the free, is telling people no, pushing them down, saying you can not be yourself.
Home of the brave, being hateful and hiding behind your own faith is not brave.
